Which Maui tours are worth your morning

Maui, 2026

Four Maui tours worth your early alarm

Most of Maui you can do yourself with a rental car and a beach towel. These four are different. Each one is easier, safer or simply only possible with someone who does it every day.

If you only book one

Snorkel Molokini on an early morning boat. You cannot reach the crater from shore, and morning water is calmest. Tours from Kīhei and Wailea get there in 15 to 20 minutes.

Ocean

Molokini Crater snorkel

Six boats compared, from 2-hour rafts to 4.5-hour sails with breakfast and lunch.

Summit

Haleakalā sunrise

Reservation rules, 10,023 ft of cold, and the tours that drive you up or bike you down.

Coast

Road to Hana

Group tours from $165, private from $1,000, and when driving yourself makes more sense.

Winter

Whale watching

Mid-December to early April, with February usually the best month.

Plan the order

Put Haleakalā sunrise early in your trip, while jet lag still has you awake at 2 am, which is when sunrise tours pick up. Put Molokini on a calm morning. Road to Hana is a full day, so give it a day with nothing else. Whale watching fits in a short afternoon in season.
